I am linking this because it is a brave post. It has a lot to say on the question of rape and what it means. I admire it for many reasons. It is worth reading

For those who say that rape is about sex, can you explain why the woman who was "raped"by six men on a bus in India has died from injuries inflicted by the insertion of an iron pole into her body?

In discussion on another board I was linked to this report

http://www.kyivpost.com/opinion/op-ed/sex-...012-318298.html

It seems to me that I did not really read much about that, at the time, though it was reported in the Guardian

http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/20...-shamed-ukraine

I am wondering why there is such world wide outrage about the current case in India and less about this very similar crime in Ukraine. It is not that it was not reported, but somehow the responses do not seem similar. Here at least there is much discussion about "Indian culture" as being at the heart of the issue: but I can't help but wonder whether this is because she was with a male friend, and so should have been immune; and was studying to be a doctor, and so should also have been immune. Certainly those seem to be significant differences between the woman in Ukraine and the woman in India.

Or maybe there really was the same reaction and I have forgotten: and will also forget the woman in India.

But this does not seem to have been reported here and I do not think it is less serious

She was, however, homeless and old. She does not seem to count so much
