We are going through a phase of puritanical panic in this country and one of the manifestations of it is a push against drinking. Minimum unit price for alcohol has been passed into law here: and last week some research body or other told us that we need to limit consumption to three small glasses of wine a week if we are to stay healthy. So this made me laugh

JP Morgan lost more than a billion dollars through bad speculations. Their chair appeared before a senate committee today and he said it was a "black mark" against the bank. He said it arose because the traders "did not understand the risks they were taking". Um....well I suppose it is comforting to know they weren't trying to do this, but I am not quite clear why they got the big bucks....and I am certainly not sure why he does if that is the best he can do. "Black mark"? Did he do anything after primary school at all?

Another comment on banking, this time from someone talking about the interest rate rigging at Barclays: I did not catch his name but the commentator said

"this was an institutionalised misunderstanding of integrity"

:D

The American Family Association refuses to use the word gay. It has software so that the word is automatically replaced in its publications.

Tyson Gay qualified for the Olympics. This was reported by AFA as

QUOTE
Tyson Homosexual was a blur in blue, sprinting 100 meters faster than anyone ever has.

I wonder if he can sue.....

The real Mitt Romney :D

He had a pet rock, which ran away from home because it was starved of affection.

he attended Harvard, studying business, law, classics and philosophy, though intellectually his first love was always tax avoidance.

You all remember the US candidate for the senate, Todd Akin, saying that women can't get pregnant from rape? Well apparently in 2008 he said that women are getting abortions when they are not pregnant. I think perhaps this man is "pure" in the sense that he does not know the facts of life.....

He is running equal to his opponent, according to the polls...

Jason John Whitehead ‏@JJWhitesnake
Only America has poor people who think universal healthcare is bad because it'll cost them too much when they're rich

A comment I saw on twitter: it explains a lot....:)
