| Ah. Well I thought I had made my position clear on that, so that is where the confusion arises. It is, to me, a matter of logic, I suppose. If someone really does attempt to derive an ought from an is they have made a logical error, I think. And there may be cases where that is done, and even done easily. I just can't think of any.
Like any logical error or fallacy a conclusion based on it must be unsound. But to me I see no way it helps you derive moral truth, or however you like to characterise it. It helps you to identify a flawed argument: which is what all identified fallacies do, I think
