Last night I went to see a show called "Northumbrian Voices" which was done by Kathryn Tickell and her colleagues. This was an unusual show because it was a mix of oral history and music. It was fascinating. She had taped interviews with very elderly people who talked of life when they were young; shepherds and farm workers and fiddlers (the same people really), and people like that. The band read those pieces and interspersed and backed them with various tunes from the area. I was enthralled. The sense of place was so strong and the lives so vivid.
Can't find any excerpts from that show on youtube: but there is some music to share
